£65,000 pro rata: common questions
Is £65,000 pro rata the same as £65,000 a year?
No. "£65,000 pro rata" means £65,000 is the full-time salary and you get the share that matches your hours. On 25 hours against a 37.5-hour week you would earn £43,333 a year, not £65,000. You only get the full £65,000 if you work the full-time hours.
How much is £65,000 pro rata for 3 days a week?
£65,000 × 3 ÷ 5 = £39,000 a year. That is £3,250 a month or £750 a week before tax, assuming full time is 5 days.
Does pro rata pay change my hourly rate?
No. The hourly rate stays the same and only the number of paid hours changes. £65,000 for a 37.5-hour week is £33.33 an hour whether you work 37.5 hours or 20. Paying part-time staff a lower hourly rate for the same job may be unlawful less favourable treatment.
